J and I dined at the incredibly stunning, Tasting Room at Creation Wines recently. We couldn’t have picked a better venue to celebrate 9 years of ”new life” post leukemia, treatment and bone-marrow stem cell transplant. My bone marrow is slowly reaching the tweens! So yes, a celebration indeed.
Creation Wines is a remarkable place with quite an inspiring story to it. In 2002, wine pioneers, Jean Claude and Carolyn Martin took on 40 hectares of undulated land that did not grow a single vine before then and basically started from scratch seeing its vast potential. Read more here.
15 years later…
”Welcome to our little piece of paradise in South Africa’s sought-after Walker Bay Wine Region. Here, high up on the scenic Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, every dawn brings an exciting new challenge and innovation is a way of life. This trendsetting spirit has shaped our vision and led to many a thrilling achievement as reflected in our impressive list of wine awards”.
Enter, the Tasting Room. Magnificent views overlooking the vineyards, a tempting a la carte menu written on a chalk board or, I highly recommend this, the Story of Creation experience. 7 chapters. 7 beautifully and carefully curated tasting dishes paired with 8 wines. See the menu above to give you an idea of what we ate and how the pairings are done. I don’t want to give too much away, but I’ll leave you with these pics for ogling purposes.
We honestly could not fit another morsel of food into our mouths but then, a quick glance at the desserts of the day, and all resistance crumbled.
So we shared Creation’s delicious take on pumpkin fritters. My gawwd!
I highly rate this little piece of heaven. I had to share it with you.
The cost per 7 chapter food and wine pairing: R335 per person [amazing right?]
