JĀ and I were fortunate enough to stay the night at Majeka House to taste Makaron’s new small plates dinner menu.
Let me just start off by saying, from the minute you walk into this beautiful and eclectic hotel, relaxation mode kicks in. It’s the ultimate escape – everywhere you look, it’s a feast for the eyes and the staff are so chilled, attentive and friendly.

The best way to describe Majeka House is through pictures, so here goes…

Once checked into our gorgeous, super plush room, we decided to bask in the sun, drink a few Pimm’s cocktails (and a bottle of bubbly) and nibble a few items on the lunch menu…

A power nap in the most comfortable bed ever was needed and then we simply chilled on our balcony and watched the sunset before having dinner at Makaron…

We found ourselves in an intimate beautifully lit dining area. Such a calming atmosphere.
We started off with more MCC.

Out came compliments from the kitchen:
Farm egg, ā€œhereboontjieā€, ā€œsnoek tertjieā€,Ā  nasturtium leaf & avocado,Ā  2 day whole wheat sourdough with house-made amasi butter

Zucchini risotto, raw mushrooms, cured egg yolk shavings paired with Hartenberg Riesling 2016

Potato gnocchi, parsley, onion paired with Stark-Conde Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Lamb ā€œstaanribā€, pickled waterblommetjies, whole lemon paired with Beaumont Pinotage 2015

Springbok rump, loquat & Kale paired with Mount Sutherland Syrah 2015

Beef brisket, aged gruyere, horseradish paired with Journey’s End The Griffin Syrah 2015

Pear, parmesan, burnt onion paired with Avontuur Natural Sweet Viognier 2017

”Toffee apples” to end off our meal. So cute.

Two stand out dishes for me, has to be the lamb staanrib as well as the savoury pear dessert. The flavours were nothing short of perfect with such a clever use of ingredients. I left very inspired, and still am. Having said that, all the dishes were well executed. And the wine pairing was most enjoyable. Good thing we stayed the night as we basically crawled to our room and slept like hibernating bears.

That is, until breakfast…
Breakfast at Majeka House is an experience on its own. Their continental breakfast is what dreams are made of. Everything you could ever want and more laid out beautifully on a long dramatic table. Then a choice of a breakfast item on the a la carte menu.

It amazes me how just 1 night away at a place like Majeka House can feel like a mini holiday.
A huge thanks to Wonder and the team for looking after us, we had the best time. For reals.
