For those of you that don’t follow me on my Facebook page, I often share pics of extraordinary places I’ve visited. Some are sponsored visits and others are gems I’ve just come across and simply had to share.

I recently visited Asara Wine Estate and met with wine guru, Michael Olivier, who I’ve known for years from being in the retail and online media industry. This was my very first visit to Asara, I’m ashamed to admit, but I’m so fortunate to have been personally introduced to this absolute gem in the Stellenbosch. Wow!

I thoroughly enjoyed a private wine tasting in the Asara cellar with Michael and the passionate and talented Asara winemakers. Every single wine we tasted just topped the next one. I need to say, I’m in love with their chenin blanc and beautiful red blends. I was also introduced to a white cab sauvignon that blew my mind. I also really like their 2016 sauvignon blanc as well as their MCC. So basically everything.

After much wine talk and laughs, we enjoyed a light lunch at Sansibar Bistro. I then got to have a peek at all the plush luxury suites the hotel offers and was escorted to my stunning room. I had some down time before dinner at Mise en Place, so I simply walked around the estate like a princess, relaxed at the pool until I finally retired to my room only to sip on chilled MCC on the balcony. Then, off I went for dinner.

Mise en Place is beautiful and has a calm vibe to it. I can’t quite explain it.
To start, I ate Pork Jowl and Foie Gras Terrine with Sultana Marmalade and sipped on a beautiful Chardonnay. YUM!
For mains, I chose the Springbok 2 ways with Pinotage Jus. A glass of Cape Fusion red blend with this meal was a triumph. The actual springbok pie was my favourite element to this dish. Perfect for a winter menu.
For dessert, I demolished Passion Fruit Soufflé and quaffed it down with a glass of MCC. All in all, a delicious, well executed meal.

I crab walked with one eye open back to my room, had the most divine bubble bath and got into my cushy gown and called it a day. The bed was beyond comfy, just saying.

The breakfast buffet is incredible. Everything you could possible want to eat for breakfast. Assorted freshly baked goods, cheese, cold meat, smoked salmon, fruit, yoghurt, juices etc. The hot breakfast menu arrived and I chose the eggs Benedict with bacon. It was perfectly cooked. I wanted to take full advantage of this beautifully laid out spread of deliciousness, but I could not fit another morsel in my belly.

I left with a serene and happy heart, full stomach and a (well worth it) hangover. I highly recommend a wine tasting at Asara Wine Estate. Stay for lunch and grab some treats at their little pastry/gift shop. And for that special occasion, have dinner at Mise en Place and stay a night (or 2) in one of the hotel’s stunning rooms. Whatever you choose to do, this place is quite simply breathtaking.

A big thanks to the fabulous Asara team for this wonderful experience and for taking such 5-star care of me. Also, thanks to Michael who invited me and for the superb wine chat and chinwag xx
